Snow Day sledding fun...

Last night when I went to bed the possibility of a snow day seemed possible although not probable.

Olivia and Eliza's birthday

The girls' party is still a week away but we gave them our gifts on their actual BD.  Here's what happened when they opened their dolls:

From the pages of preschool....

(In her very fast and loud voice)

Eliza:

"MOM!  I KISSED A BOY TODAY.  ACTUALLY HE KISSED ME.  HIS NAME IS HENRY AND WE ARE GOING TO GET MARRIED WHEN WE GROW UP--IF WE CAN FIND EACH OTHER."

Me:
"Um, wait, he kissed you?  What did you say?"

Eliza:
"YES, HE KISSED ME ON THE LIPS AND I SAID EWWWWWW!  SLIMY!
AND THEN WE PLAYED STORM TROOPERS TOGETHER."

Mike (later):
Well, at least he has good taste in girls and movies.

NYE

We love New Years Eve...
It's such a fun way to round out the whole holiday season.
We celebrate with our kids which makes it oh-so-crazy...but fun too...
This year we even had a pretend "count down" to New Years...
yep

Jillian got into the spirit of NYE this year!

We *tried* to take a group photo...

Jillian and Steve tried to cheer on their team by wearing their best OSU gear...
it did not work.

Miss Megan read our big kids Harry Potter!

Jillian did NOT like sleeping in the den and preferred Aunt Jen and Uncle Mike's room...

Addie and Sam were determined to stay up and watch movies until midnight.  They snuck down just in time to see Mariah Carey...ugh...
and the ball drop...
NOT crash, Mr. Steve, just simply lower down on midnight!  ;)
Welcome 2017!

Other break highlights...

We celebrated New Years Day with Nana & Papa...
Addie learned how to play her first "adult" game called Ticket to Ride!
Sam and I made a monster out of food based on his Mad Science kit Nana got him for Christmas.
We saw the extended Grigger family and took this gem of a picture...
Put together a 550 piece Harry Potter puzzle Sam got for Christmas...
Went to the Jumpyard, Amazone and bowling...

And those were just some of the highlights.  We also had lots of movie nights and game nights and even snuck in a date night too.  It goes without saying that Christmas break still remains one of the highlights, in our family, of both the child and adult year!
Grateful for it.  :)

Seeing lights...

is an experience that's always better in my head than in reality.  ;)
Someone is always cold or has to go to the bathroom or is whining in the car on the way there.
Someone falls on the ice.
I yell 6749 times not to eat snow or lick the icicles off said light displays.
It's a touching family moment every year.

The week before this we went to the new drive-through Victory Light park near by us on a weekend and got stuck (with no way out) in what became a 50 minute wait line.
It was magical.
Mike loved every second of that experience.

I mean, the pictures are sort of worth it.
Some holiday traditions are better than others.  ;) ha!

Christmas at Nana & Papa's...

We head to my parents' house in the late morning for breakfast and a leisurely day of presents and relaxing and, of course, a delicious dinner.  We also love that we finally get to reunite with this part of our family as we all are at other parts until Christmas day.  Needless to say, these ladies were happy to see each other...
And so were these boys...
I swear Peter just keeps getting cuter.

Michelle got Mike this amazing new Christmas shirt...it's sure to be a favorite for years to come...
Not a bad family photo!  Maybe our best one in years!

The final family picture.  I told the kids all my wanted this year was nice Christmas photo smiles.  I think it worked.  ;)
Please note one of my favorite Christmas outfits this year...
Somewhere in between getting all the food on the table and grace Sam ate an entire basked of (6-8) dinner rolls while no one was looking.  To his defense, they were the "special" ones Nana made for him without Parmesan cheese.  We just didn't mean they were "all yours in 2 minutes" Sam.
The lady behind all the Christmas magic.  Mom sure knew how to do Christmas "big" for us growing up with the perfect amount of church, family time, special outings and magic of presents.  We're so lucky to get to use all that magic, now, with our own families.  I think our special leisurely Christmas day at Mom and Dad's is the perfect star on top of the Christmas holiday.

I mean these cuties don't know quite how good they have it.
yet.
Merry Christmas!
