Wax Museum

Addie's school does a big biography research project that culminates in a wax museum.
Here she is frozen until you come up and press her "button."
Then she comes to life and tells you all about her famous person.
She and Daddy chose Ada Lovelace who was the first person to write a computer program.
She was Lord Byron's daughter and completely into math and science.

Mommy almost didn't take a day off of work for the event but then she remembered not wanting to regret missing stuff like this...
Being a working Mommy is tricky, you know?
A special "work-at-home" perk for Aunt Michelle too...
Addie was really excited Aunt Michelle made it too.

I took a video of her little speech...It's hard to hear so I have to work on that, but I'll post it if I get it right.
(Note how we reused that stellar Halloween costume from last year?)

Eliza might become a geologist...

This girl is obsessed with volcanoes...
Remember when she named a rabbit Hot Lava here?
So, clearly, for her birthday, what else would Nana buy her?
But a...
It was amazing and really erupted.

If, in 15 years she majors in volcanology...
We will have this to prove my genius and Nana to thank for her first volcano.

This is what Valentine's Day actually looks like...

So (eh hem) when you're a litle lot Type A like me,
God gives you four kids and you can barely hold it all together and then
a holiday like this comes around...
Deep breath...
 enjoy the moment...
let it go.

Kids love their Vday.
So does Mom.

This kind of feels like blog-cheating to all of our family and mutual friends out there, but I had to share this post with you over on my sister's blog because many of you heard the drama and lead-up to the big homecoming my sweet sister, husband, and our niece made in December.  We had quite the "extreme home makeover" weekend working to get their house just the way they wanted it...

It was so fun and tiring all at the same time...and although their new house looks gorgeous, the best part is that it might be exactly 6 houses around the corner from us.
6 houses, for real.

Impromptu Snow Day

No power?
I'll take that snow day, thank you very much...
especially since we haven't had any yet.
Not that I'm counting.
And I even braved the cold for this moment...

Sam Reads!

Sam's reading development has actually been very fascinating.  I'd be lying if I said I didn't worry and fret about Sam's letter name and sound acquisition when he was in preschool or when he needed extra reading help last year or this year.

I know all the research behind reading development and that, it's actually highly related to development.  I know that boys often spike in their learning while girls often have a steadier growth.  I know all the data and have told parents the same things for more than a decade, but watching my own son develop into a reader was such test of all that educational know-how.

I think, as parents we often fall into this trap of  "what's next" or getting to that next "milestone" and Sam taught me to trust in time.
Trust that he would learn his letters and sounds and then learn how to put them together when he was that all that time spend practicing would pay off.
It did.
Sam was just released from reading help and although he may someday need it again (I begged is teacher to continue working with him...)  We are pretty stoked about that fact.

And, as amazing as watching Addie learn to read was, this moment, this video is just as sweet, if not sweeter because the road was longer.
But so very sweet in the end.
Well done little buddy...
We are so proud of you.

Dressing Up...

I'm not sure when Addie stopped dressing up, but I decided I better capture this a few more times...
Complete with the appropriate hairstyles...

A sign you have 3 sisters...

He's such a trooper.
Your sisters owe you big time buddy.

Watch out...

This guy has tricked the nurse into believing he was actually, for real, sick and needed to go home immediately despite the fact he had no fever...
He's gone home 2 times in the last 3 weeks only for us to find out he was totally "recovered" quickly.
Nurse Margie keeps get bamboozled by Sam.
I am very serious with Sam about these nurse visits.
But behind the scenes I have to crack up...
Nurse Margie has been around the block as a school nurse.
I'm not sure how she keeps getting tricked?!?
Don't give in nurse Margie...
he's got your number.
