Planning Sam's BD

Sam's birthday is falling at an unfortunate time this year...exactly right in the middle of wedding prep events (shower/bachelorette parties) and Kelly's actual wedding...
So I've tried to be on the ball prepping things for his party...if you know Sam you know that he LOVES candy.
More than toys or tv or computer games....
So he requested that we get candy for his party...
duh...
He found the following page in our party catalog and took it upon himself to circle the candy he wanted.
Take a close look:
Yep...he circled everything.
Everything, that is, except this...
zoomed in for you viewing pleasure...
It's hard to see, but in the candy stick jar, he took much care to "x out" the stick that looked like mint.  Because, as Sam will tell you...
He likes all candy in the world except mint.

Sick days...

Mike and I each spent a day home with sick Ellie last week...

Snow Bunnies

Being as superstitious as I can be, I'd like to think that somehow posting snow pictures might jinx us into having more snow.
I know better.
Clearly I've gone without my winter coat for three days,
but this is Cleveland.  It's too early to worry about a jinx.
One day during naptime Lori and Liv made snow bunnies.
{Liv laughs in the face of naptime most days}
I think it's the perfect mix of spring and snow.
We love our Miss Lori.
Happy almost spring!

Naughty Sam- Kindergarten

Sam lost his behavior stamp last week one day
It's the stamp he gets each day to indicate he was on-track and behaving.
I'm (secretly) thrilled it has taken this long to lose said stamp...
But I was very serious in my dealings with such matters in front of Sam.

I raised my eyebrows.
I "talked" about this to Sam.
Mike "discussed" future implications of said misbehavior.
We took away his computer time.
It was a big deal.

And then, smack in the middle of our final portion of the lecture...
somewhere right around...
"School is very important Sam.  Daddy and I are counting on you to be a good learner and listener...."

Sam says...
in his most polite voice..

"Um, excuse me...
Are you almost done with these sentences?"

Build-a-Bear!

My Aunt Marlene got all the kids giftcards to go to Build a Bear for Christmas.  We were actually going to go in January but we never made it
{read: stomach flu}
So we went this weekend...
There's Ellie getting a pink sparkly kitty.

There's Liv getting a rainbow Bunny

Sam with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle

Addie got a rainbow bear in a rainbow outfit with rainbow shoes....

There's Liv with the sweet bear maker.  She had Liv rub the bunny's heart on her ears so it would be a good listener...that's ironic...no less than 4 minutes later, Liv had a fit that involved yelling and screaming and Mike carrying her outside the store...

Giving the new friends their "bath"

zonking out in the car...

I think everyone had a great time making their animals.  It was the first time the twins went...and really the first time Sam was "into" the event.
Thanks Marlene!
It was a blast!

And just for fun...check out this flashback:

Mama torture

If you chat with me regularly you know there is one half hour of my week that I am literally, positively, downright scared of...
yep...
Tae Kwon Do

Ever since Mike took his new job on the other side of town there have been a few concessions I've had to make.  One of those concessions is taking all four children to Sam's TKD class.

It's torture.

One time, one girl was having a fit & they had to close the classroom door while the other was crawling commando style under the rows of chairs so I couldn't catch her.

It was epic.
and horrible.

I brought puzzles and books and dolls and everything amazing I could think of for awhile and finally...gave in.
Sometimes you have to know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em.
It was time to cut my losses.
Now I bring snacks and the portable dvd player.
It's okay.
I subtract it from their totally daily screen time.
I'm okay with it.

I'm here to tell you sometimes you have to know your strengths as a Mom.
Mine is Peter Rabbit.

It's official!

Pictures are worth a thousand words, aren't they truly?
My little boy is getting big!
If you're keeping score...that was his first tooth!

New Belt

Sam had a belt test this weekend!
Moving to this next melt made me nervous because the breaking of the board had to be done, this time, with Sam's elbow!
Every time I've watched kiddos attempt that, it's taken a few tries...
I was just hoping we could pull it off....

A few of Sam's fans came to the test too!
Thanks Nana & Grandpa Rob!
xox!
