First Grade

It was with much excitement that I returned to teaching this month.  I just love, love, love to be a teacher, teach first graders, and be at school.  Don't tell anyone ;) but I think I landed a great class...that, and my sub was amazing.  My classroom was in perfect shape. I have to get that girl a permanent job, stat.

Anyways..I thought I'd share with you two recent 'funnies' from life in first grade.  We were studying penguins and doing an experiment to simulate blubber.  I had told the children I had filled my cooler with super cold icy water...that it was almost as cold as penguin water from the South Pole.  We did our experiment...and at the end, a little girl came up and said, "Mrs. Medved, I just can't believe it, how did you get back so fast from the South Pole with that water?"

Here's the other one:

It's kind of hard to read, but says:
I love frste grad (heart)

Welcome back to me.

Eliza, cups and phones...

Hello, hello Mom?
I know you're trying this whole cup thing.
But I'm not interested.
I like those bottles better.

I know you bought me cute pink ones to match my outfit, but I'm not falling for it.

please?

Grandpa Rob...

Grandpa Rob popped over with some BD gifts for the girls this week.  He had to work the day of their party.

Loks like the puppies were a hit.

Crayons!

(minus that big squiggle where I showed her what to do!)

Naughty Twins

Now that the girls are officially 1, it's time to do what every good Mom and Dad do.
Begin capturing their naughtiness as they get ever and ever closer to those notorious terrible twos.
I thought I had escaped offspring that ruin all my board books.
I was wrong.
Meet Eliza, book eater extraordinaire

And then there's Olivia.  She, like all toddlers, loves the bathroom and the very thrilling
toliet paper roll.

Noooo! Mommy has snacks!
No need to eat paper!

Our one year olds can Skype!

On their actual birthday, Uncle Steve and Aunt Michelle just had to see their favorite twin nieces.
So here they are, skyping with Liv and Ellie...

Ahhh...the marvels of technology...

Rainforest!

On the girls' actual bd, we headed to the Rainforest at the zoo for some nature and animals.  It was actually warm enough to sneak over and see the elephants too!

The girls were much more awake and aware this visit!

Addie had her class mascot home for her 'special weekend.' So he came too.

Look at that guy.  It's called a gharial.  Creepy.

Olivia seemed to dig it.

Loss

This is George.  My kids affectionally call him
Mr. George.
He's the Dad of our dear sister-in-law Emily.
He died last week.

George was just the nicest man.  He came to all of our holiday events and birthday parties.  He came to Thanksgiving at my Moms and Christmas at Mike's Mom's house.  He came to celebrate our children even though they weren't necessarily his relatives.  Emily loved her dad lots and it's going to be a long road without him.  My Mom's favorite thing about George was his hospitality   He never came to your house without a bouquet of flowers.
He was quite the gentleman.
And he will be missed,
by us all.

A song for us:
