Hello, my name is Jen...

and I am addicted to Downton Abbey.
My friend Megan told me about it.
{She taught me it was not downtown abbey}
And then I saw a promo special on PBS about it.
and now I've seen 6 episodes in 3 nights.
oops.

Christmas Ornament!

I've been struggling with how to creatively and adequately sort and blog the hundreds of pictures we took over Christmas.  I'm not certain that I've come up with any good, witty way to do so.

So, instead, I'll share with you this gem.  Isn't it darling?  Even though i'm 32, my mom still buys me a new ornament each Christmas (don't you love mamas?).

This one might be my favorite to date.  It's so cute...but it's so much more than that.  It's our whole family, complete, and big and celebrating our first Christmas...Off bedrest with a ridiculous quantity of gifts and wrapping paper eaten.
This Christmas definitely topped last years.  There's something amazing too about celebrating with my whole (never planned) family of six.
I'm so very grateful.

Baby Lizard

Listen... some things you can't make up.  One is my son Sam's relationship with a small, purple, plastic lizard.

My Mom bought the children numerous wonderful gifts when she took a trip to Florida, but none of them could measure up to the purple lizard - a dollar store purchase

The first time we knew the purple lizard, or as Sam came to call him (or her) Baby Lizard, was really important was at Target one fateful day.  We got in the Minvan (my Batmobile, really) and Samuel proceeded to inform us that he had lost his Baby Lizard.  He was sure that he had left said item in the baby food aisle in Target, and Sam STRENOUSLY requested that we find the lost amphibian.  Well call me Susie, but the damn lizard was in the baby food aisle in Target, next to the apple and bananna sludge mixture.

Fickle is the mind of a child.  Last night Sam threw the lizard out of his room and declared that he no longer needed the comforts provided by having a purple lizard at one's beck and call.  Poor Baby Lizard!

Elfing...

This year, Santa sent us our first Elf-on-the-Shelf.
We've had tons of funning with our elf, Twinkle.
{for the record, Mike tried to get the kids to name our elf, Gary}
They didn't bite.

Twinkle does something new each night.  Here he was reading stories to our Squinkies.

And playing batman.

Apparently, that weekend I was gone, Twinkle and Daddy shared some cocktails.
It was a rough weekend.

Breakfast with Santa and Light with Abels

My parents took Addie and Sam to their very first Santa breakfast at Mapleside.  Let's just say I feel like I've been missing out all these years.  There was breakfast and dessert (my friend Alison calls that breakfast-dessert, and it usually only happens when Grandmas are around) and a craft, a visit with Santa, a present with candy and toys, and cookie decorating.
Really, could it get much better than that.

We also went to see the lights with our friends Megan and Steve.

Their son, Eli, is under the blanket in the stroller.  He decided a nap was much cooler than lights.
Who can blame the kid?

This is that crazy culdesac in Strongsville that has a million lights. But the best thing about it was they have a Santa on Saturday nights.  He told my kids the best gift of all is Jesus!  What a super neat Santa.
Loved it.

Mr. No-head

So today the three littlest Medveds and I are in Dillards finishing up some Christmas shopping when Sam started to notice the mannequins.  At first he was just pulling their clothes and then he started to notice they didn't have heads...

So, through the entire store he was saying, "Mr. No-Head, Mr. No-Head, etc" when he saw a mannequin.
{and yes, I did have to look up how to spell mannequin.}

Imagine his surprise when he found this:

I almost peed my pants.  That is too funny.
He just looked at me and said,
"His arm fell off."

ahahahah...

Tuesdays with Emily

One of the little perks of my amazing year off has been my playdates with my sister-in-law Emily and my niece and nephew.  I'm pretty sure it's Sam's favorite day of the week.
There's superhero playing:

And monkey business...

And trouble....like when we discovered the little boys removing all the cloth diapers from the drying rack.

Love those cuties and my time with Emily!
It'll be sad to be done for awhile...but don't worry...
summer will be here before we know it!

Connor~ Good News...

After the events of Friday in Connecticut, I am arriving with some good news.  And let's face it.  We need some good news.
And this is as good as it gets:
Connor went home on Wednesday!  He did!
And Mike and Katie are just smitten having him home.  He went home with a couple of medicines and totally surprised much of the NICU staff on his recovery.  Katie and Mike will monitor Connor's developmental milestones, but things look so good for Connor.
And we are so very grateful.
Sometimes, God's blessings are overwhelming they're so good.

Christmas explosion

This Christmas, I went from having two kids to four.  That means lots more presents.  And not even really a lot more yet because the girls have a small sampling because they don't even know it's Christmas.  And so this is how I know I have lots of kids:
I color-coded Christmas gifts by wrapping paper last night.

It's an official sign you have lots of children.  I'm certain.

Back to the Future

Dear 2003 Jen,
Someday you're going to have four kids.  I know you don't believe me but it's true.  Please buy a king size bed instead of a queen bed.  Because...on any given night one of aforementioned children will be scared/sick/want to snuggle for a bit and you will have to share a queen bed with them.  It won't be fun.  Buy a king bed instead.
I wasn't kidding about the four kids either,
me

Whoville! Addie's Christmas Play

I love that Addie's school goes all out for Christmas.  They have hallways full of Christmas trees.  It's darling.  Addie's student teacher took on "The Grinch that Stole Christmas" play with the kindergarteners.  It was a bit of a tall order, but so cute.

Grammy came!

So did Nana and Papa!

Addie was Who #6, for the record.  :)

That's Addie's good friend Alex. Isn't her hair so cute?

Videos below...

You can stop after the line...not much after that.
