Addie's Circus Recital

Addie would like to tell you about her recital:
"I liked dancing in my recital.  I whistled and I did a star jump and I did open and close.  I went down on my knees too.  Kelly, Grammy, Nana, Papa, Mommy and Daddy all came to see it.  They brought me flowers.  My costume has little fluffy stuff on the bottom and sparkly stuff on the top.  It has a bow on the back.  My hair has ribbons and piggy tails and ballet shoes and tights.  That's it!"

In case we haven't let you in our little secret, Miss Olivia has a birthmark on her forehead.  See it right there, top left?  It's sort of triangular, but we pretend it's circular. Ya know, like an "O" for "Olivia?"  Just in case you want to be one of our super impressive friends or family that can tell the twins apart.  At least until their hair grows in, right?

Also, btw, check out our new camera.  Gorgeous, right?

Naughty Sam, Looking out the window

In keeping with our "naughty Sam" theme, here is a shot I took of him watching me take the trash out when he is supposed to be sleeping.  This is a common occurance, and usually, he falls off the chair he is using to spy out the window.

Hanging up my shoes

It has been a long week.  If you read the previous post, you know that sleep has been a bit haphazard lately.  If you've been talking to me at all in the last couple of months, you know that my right calf is busted.  Today it is official:  it is the last damn day I'm running on that thing for a couple of months.  I'm hanging up my running shoes for the summer.

It couldn't come at a worse time.  Running is a sweet, blissful, stress relieving activity that always breathes life into me.  Not being able to run is like a musician not being able to play their guitar or piano.  I was running a really light 3 miles after taking a week off from the last calf incident when it tweaked again.  2 mile limp home.

I'm really down in the dumps about it.  I won't be running any races this year.  After I've taken the 3 months off, I have to just pray that the calf has healed completely and I'll be able to run again.  If so, I should be able to train back up for the Cleveland Half Marathon in 2013.  If not, I guess I'll have to take up biking or something.

I hope I don't get any fatter.  I gained 15 pounds back when I couldn't run during Jen's bedrest.

Also, the Cleveland Clinic says we owe them 10 thousand dollars, even though last months bill said 0.  Screw those guys.

Obviously, our blog has suffered from some serious neglect lately, and, with good reason. :) Last Thursday was a typical warm sunny day. We played at home, hit the playground...standard summer fun. And then Eliza woke up from her nap. She was a bit warm.  She might have been fussy. Or a maniac. The next 48 hours were filled with crying and crying and back arches..
and driving around town at midnight
and prayers to "please make her stop crying"
and rocking upstairs and outside and downstairs
and watching the NBA finals game replayed at 4am
and sleeping on the couch
my mom says she sang the entire Sound of Music soundtrack to Eliza before she was asleep
and swinging her in her car seat
and putting her in the pool
and bouncing her on your knee
and laying her back against you in the exact angle to make her poor belly stop hurting.
Putting her to sleep on the washer
Or in her swing with the vacuum blaring next to her (success!)

Mommy was right.  Pediatrician confirmed.  Poor Eliza has that same silly milk protein allergy that Addie and Sam had.  Goodbye milk formula.  Hello soy.  And then last night, Olivia felt warm.  And then she didn't sleep except in her swing.  Darn you milk.

You can't get anything by her Pt 1

Our daughter is growing up.  Last night she pulled out her second tooth, and of course we got ready to do the whole Tooth Fairy thing.  Jen executed the Tooth Fairy maneuver, exchanging the tooth for a fat sack of quarters (like three or four!).

All was well.  Today I'm getting ready to go for a run (stinking hot, too - 86 degrees at 1pm!) when Addie comes down from her nap holding a pearly white.  "Mommy, the tooth fairy forgot to take my tooth."  Jen looks at me in horror.  I ask, "Where did you find it?"  "In the bathroom", she says.

This is a pivotal parenting moment.  All your training comes down to this.  "Hmmm", I say.  "I bet the tooth fairy stopped to get your tooth, and had to go pottie.  She probably just left it there and will be back to get it tonight."

  "Ok daddy... "

He shoots, he scores!

Naughty Sam- Scotch tape thievery

Sigh. There are three more huge strips upstairs. That's what happens when mommy and day try to sleep in on a Saturday.

First Swim

Memorial Day weekend was so warm this year!  We got everyone in my Mom and Dad's pool for the first time.  Phew!  It is hard work getting 6 people changed and sunscreened!

Olivia in purple.

Eliza in pink.

The water was pretty cool and the girlies didn't even seem to mind.  That's right ladies, getting ready for the beach already.  Mommy's so proud.

Naughty Sam--unwraps

This was the birthday gift that I had so carefully wrapped for Mike's mom on her birthday.  It had some stellar curly ribbon on it.
That was until
when we weren't looking.  Sigh.
It's not your birthday little mister.

Week of Sam...

My parents took Addie to Disney World a week ago (what, what?  I know...more on that later).  Mike and I had so much fun focusing on our little mister for the week.  We had some great highlights, like the "Jumpy Place" (Pump It Up) and good old Squires Castle (a fav from Mike's childhood).  I think he had funny having Mommy and Daddy to himself...although he did tell Addie he missed her while she was gone.  heh...
