Bringing Crew Home...

One of my dear college friends leaves tomorrow to adopt her baby boy from Rwanda. Take a minute to watch their video here:

We're so excited and proud of all they're doing for this new addition to their family! Join us in praying for their 3 week trip to Rwanda and baby Crew.

Cait's in the middle.

Remember this...

For our recent trip to Maui, our dear cousins Meredith and Kirby hooked us up with the official(ish) National Geographic whale watching kit. You can read about it here:

Don't worry, we put the kit to good use. We wore the poncho while ringing the whale bell and took turns swapping the poncho in case. Turns out we never did take any pics of us in the poncho. But don't worry...the real key to the adventure was the genuine whale food I sprinkled in the ocean. It totally made the whales breach. I'm certain of it. Here I am:

Newest Happenings in First Grade...

In about the last week and a half, the following has occurred in first grade*:
  • One of my boy's been trying to grow a mustache all week.
  • Two kids crossed out their names on their paper and wrote BOB instead thinking I might not notice they didn't finish their work and changed their name to a kid that isn't in our class
  • A kid down the hall put mulch in his ear and it got stuck. The dr had to remove it
  • A girl and boy puked on Monday and Tuesday (luckily NOT in my classroom)
  • all the kids made Egyptian pharaoh headpieces in art and were walking "Like an Egyptian" down the hallway today
  • My students insist that the groundhog outside our window is a beaver
  • One of my girl's told a boy she would not marry him (I think it's the lack of a mustache)
  • One of my girls colored in Canada instead of America on our map of "where we live" Her family's from Mexico.
  • One child got stuck, briefly, in a bookcase
  • We had fairytale day today and had 4 Red Riding Hoods and 4 Jacks and beanstalk
*Names have been removed to protect the innocent.

Jen: Addie, I see you changed your clothes.
Addie: yep
Jen: What happened to your pants and shirt?
Addie: Well...I needed to look like a princess.

Clearly. Dresses are way more princessy than pants. Maybe she's preparing for the royal wedding.

Maui Grateful...

We are so lucky and grateful to have such wonderful families that enabled us to spend a week away from in beautiful Maui. Thanks to everyone who took such great care of our babies while we were gone!

Maui was heavenly. It's what everyone says it will be. It's beautiful, relaxing, and has gorgeousness hidden around every corner. The slide show below includes shots from our adventures: exploring lava pools, whale watching, beaching, the sunrise atop Mt. Haleakala, the Road to Hana with waterfalls, black sand beaches, bamboo forest, and a snorkel boat trip to Molikini. Be sure to watch for the turtles we swam with (3 times), the seal that flopped up on shore, and all of our delicious dinners. Don't worry, we still found plenty of time to relax, score a tan and run. (okay, so only Mike ran, but I shopped!) We both said that the best thing about Maui was that there was an amazing amount of things to do and every one was a world-class experience. We're not sure if it topped Europe or tied it...but we loved it in a big way.

Start saving your pennies. Even if takes years to save up, it will be worth it. Thanks to my darling husband for whisking me away on this dream vacation....xox...jen

One of my first graders informed me this week he's growing a mustache.

And then maybe a goatee.

Then, probably a beard.

His dad can grow a pretty good beard. So he can too.

I told him today I could see the start of it.

It wasn't worth the fight.

So sure we've been back from Maui for a week and a half by now. But we've been busy! Super busy getting everything and everyone back into a routine. I know we owe you pics. And boy do we have pics. A full slide show is in your future. But until we get that's a tease...
