We talked about Matthew 5:48 last week in group and it has been on my mind lately. Jesus says - "Be perfect, as your Father in heaven is perfect."

CS Lewis has some awesome thoughts on the matter in his book Mere Christianity:

"That is why He warned people to 'count the cost' before becoming Christians. 'Make no mistake', He says, 'if you let me, I will make you perfect. The moment you put yourself in My hands, that is what you are in for. Nothing less, or other, than that. You have free will, and if you choose, you can push Me away. But if you do not push me away, understand that I am going to see this job through. Whatever suffering it may cost you in your earthly life, whatever inconceivable purification it may cost you after death, whatever it costs Me, I will never rest, nor let you rest, until you are literally perfect... This I can do, and this I will do. But I will not do anything less.'"

Perfect? Yes, perfect, you ARE going to be perfect! God is easy to please, but hard to satisfy - he will love your first stumbling attempts at Christian life, but he will not be content to leave you there... he wants you to run the race!

It seems the only caveat is that we have to not push His will aside. So it seems that the first step in the Christian life is shoving aside sinful nature, our natural self, so that Jesus can do this radical surgery on us.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit" anyone? It seems to be the key!

Dedicating Sam...

Many of you may know Mike and I chose to dedicate Addie and Sam and save baptism until they're older and can make that decision on their own. We got to dedicate our little boy on August 2nd at my parents' church along with all of our family and friends. When we were contemplating adding to our family we prayed for a healthy little boy and God answered our prayers. So it seemed fitting to use Hannah's Bible passage to celebrate the day, "and in due time she gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, for she said, "I asked the Lord for him."

How could she do this to me?

Jen went upstairs to put Sam to bed at like 9, and I was just waiting for her to come down stairs (while packing the lunches, etc). The problem is that she left me with the TV on, and I had to watch Glee for an hour. Doesn't she know I'm helpless to the TVs powers? I went up there 5 minutes ago and found her asleep!

How could she do this to me?

Summer Vacation...

The great thing about my life is that there will always be a first day of school and there will always be a summer vacation. I know....I'm totally fortunate and I don't take it for granted! :) I spent my summer filling it to the brim with fun and frolic for my little girl, my newest little boy and me. We found time for all sorts of excitement in between potty training and newborn spit up. Here are a few mommy highlights!

Mommy & Me Gymnastics Class

Playing at the Splash Pad in Medina

Playing at Memphis Kiddie Park (Mommy & Grandma went here when they were little girls!)

Riding the ponies at SpringMist Farms in Brunswick thanks to Marlene's recommendation!

And who could forget Nana & Papa's pool!?!

Eavesdropping in First Grade

"They make a lot of things in China. My family's from China"
"We got a table from China...it says MADE IN CHINA."
"My tv's from China"
"Ya know they eat dogs in China"
(Mrs. Medved) "No they do not and that is inappropriate. Get back to work."

the funny sister...

So I have a lot of talents. And by "A lot"...I mean three. There is one talent, however, to which I will concede. My sister is hilarious. She's so the funnier sister. Don't believe me? Check out her blog

Sure it's funnier than mine...but she wouldn't even have a blog if it weren't for our heckling...so at least I can hang that over her 'obviously funnier and more clever blog than ours' head. Kudos shell...kudos...

Waiting for Sadie's baby brudder...

So our friends Caitland and Stephan have decided to adopt their next baby from Rwanda! We're so excited and proud they're adopting. We wish them the best and are following along on their blog: http://sharps2rwanda.blogspot.com/ or see our blogs to the left. Sadie is less than a month older than Addie and we can't wait to meet, as Addie would so term him, Sadie's new baby brudder. Follow along with us...
